Here's how it works:
(1) It applies to
all in-store purchases of $15.00 (sans tax) or more, EXCEPT:
(a) During storewide
discount sales
(b) Online listings
at Amazon.com or Abebooks.com, even if those listed books may be found on
display in the store
(c) Otherwise at
the discretion of management, e.g., there may be other discount sales, to
which the card will be deemed not to apply, or there may be a requirement
that all card users have a current email address, or that the card be used
in conjunction with a current promotional coupon available by email, etc.
(2) It requires
10 such $15.00 or more purchases, not to exceed 2 such per day (We like you;
we want to see you in the store often!)
(3) It will be redeemed
on your 11th purchase of an amount greater than the average purchase amount
of the previous 10 purchases (will not apply partially to a 12th or 13th or
other purchase in an amount less each time than $15.00--we will just be starting
a new card for you on the post-11th $15.00 or greater purchase, provided other
conditions are satisfied). For example, if you averaged $20.00
on the previous purchases, your 11th purchase of greater than $20.00 (or some
other single purchase of your choosing in an amount greater than the amount
of your average purchase amount) will be diminished by $20.00. (NOTE: no cash
refunds if your 11th purchase is less than your average purchase and no carryovers
or partial use of the average purchase amount to be credited, e.g., $2.00
on an 11th purchase, $10.00 on the 12th purchase, and $3.00 on your 13th purchase.)
(4) It requires that
you have the card physically available at the time of each use. (It is too
cumbersome for us, as it is for another used bookstore in Greater Boston with
FBCs, to keep track of your account use without the card. Our cash register
is not as expensive or complexly endowed as the registers in another Greater
Boston bookstore which keeps the information for you via your phone number
or home address).
